The Foundation for Peaceful Parenting was founded by the Reeves family in Orange County, California and granted 501c3 status. In consultation with child development professionals, the Foundation for Peaceful Parenting was created with the goal of ending corporal punishment for children by raising awareness about its numerous negative outcomes among parents and the community.
The Foundation partnered with nonprofit MOMS Orange County to help educate thousands of new moms on alternative ways to discipline kids without spanking. The Foundation is also seeking a university partnership to study the positive effects of social/emotional learning and discipline as an alternative to corporal punishment.
At the time the Foundation for Peaceful Parenting was started, even the American Academy of Pediatrics still considered spanking to be an acceptable form of punishment for children. The AAP has since updated their view on spanking but more awareness is needed in order to end corporal punishment as an accepted form of discipline in our society – giving every child the opportunity for the very best start, and preventing so many problems later in life.
